Energy may be divided into different components, devices, areas or operating units by adding secondary energy isolators downstream of the main energy isolators from an operational and safety perspective. While allowing some of the required operations, loops, or transpositions, the user may only need to secure a portion of the area to meet operational and maintenance requirements. Users shall install these devices in accordance with relevant standards.
Control the stored energy
Surplus energy, stored energy or potential energy in potential danger shall be released, interrupted, limited or otherwise controlled.
Before starting work on a locked or listed machine, the authorized person should verify that the energy isolation and inactivation have been completed.
The work area should be inspected to ensure that unnecessary items have been removed, that the machine is in good condition and that all personnel are in a safe position.
Before restoring power to the machine, personnel who may be affected by return to operation should be alerted.
Each locking device or tag device in the energy isolation device shall be removed by the authorized person who originally lockout tagout.
After removing the locking device or hanging device, persons who may be affected by these actions should be informed that the locking device or hanging device has been removed before starting the machine.
