Occupational safety is concerned with accidents that have a high probability of occurring but relatively minor consequences. Such as high fall, limited space operation, mechanical injury, poisoning, etc.

Occupational safety management pays more attention to human activities, such as violation of rules and regulations, training, contractor, hidden trouble detection and management, individual protection, emergency skills, etc. Safety rules such as heinrich's rule and iceberg theory are often used in PPT for staff training, which well interprets the concept of occupational safety. To ensure that employees do not violate rules and regulations, have the appropriate skills, wear labor protection equipment, has become the majority of enterprise safety management personnel the most important task.

Process safety is concerned with accidents with low probability but very serious consequences. Such as device overpressure, leakage, reaction out of control, etc., the proportion of attention to the inherent risk of equipment and facilities is large. The theory of accident cause, Swiss cheese model and other tools are typical representatives of process safety management.

Compared with occupational safety, process safety is more professional and has a higher threshold. LOPA, HAZOP, SIF/SIL and other conceptual methods have gradually been accepted by domestic enterprises. The introduction of process safety management mode also pushes the concept of professional safety to the foreground. Safety is not only a matter of safety management departments, professional departments should also carry the banner of professional safety.

Systematic thinking mode focuses on clarifying the difference and relationship between occupational safety and process safety, and coordinating the orderly and efficient operation of various management elements. The systematic thinking mode emphasizes the leadership and responsibility, the relationship between departments and the link between elements, the identification and control of business process risks, and the PDCA cycle, which draws on some methods and tools of the quality management system.

The essence of safety management is the external manifestation of the enterprise's comprehensive management level. In the process of serving enterprises, experts can give the basic judgment on the level of enterprise safety management through the communication with the leadership, the effectiveness of system construction, and the spiritual outlook of employees, which are all the categories of systematic thinking mode. Systematic thinking mode is the implementation basis of occupational safety, process safety and other management methods, similar to the scope of safety culture and safety standardization.
