Establish rigorous training programs
Training is an integral part of a successful locking program, but it is also the most difficult part because every workplace and every employee in the workplace has their own special training needs.
First, it's important that everyone knows their role. Define, divide and assign tasks to corresponding employees. In terms of locking operations, there are three main types of employees involved: authorized employees, affected employees and others. "Authorized staff" means the staff directly involved in locking mechanical facilities; "Affected employee" means an employee whose operation is affected by the locking of the equipment, usually an employee operating the locked equipment; "Other employee" means an employee working in the area who does not operate the locking device.
Everyone should be clear about the type of employee they belong to and establish a close communication mechanism among colleagues. Authorize staff to issue notices clearly and clearly to affected staff after locking or unlocking. In order to ensure the security of the unlocking operation, only the authorized employee who has locked the lock can perform the unlocking operation. There is room for the worker's signature on the locking device, which also emphasizes that each employee has specific tasks and responsibilities.
Like locking processes and isolation points, documentation is an important element of training. It plays an auxiliary role on the following three levels. First, it can help management ensure that all employees have received targeted training. In addition, the management can easily identify and fix the training loopholes. Secondly, recording the time of training is helpful to arrange the next training plan. If management knows when the last training was, it can be very easy to schedule the next one. Third, by reviewing the training records, the management can view the locked training program more objectively, which is also conducive to project improvement.
Lock training is also tailored to the workplace. If the factory workforce speaks differently, there must be language versions of training, Lockout signs and documentation. In addition, employees are encouraged to express their own training needs and formulate training contents according to their needs.
According to OSHA requirements, Lockout tagout training should be conducted at least once a year. However, we should regard this as the minimum standard, not the ideal frequency. In many cases, repeated training is necessary to ensure that critical repair and maintenance operations are carried out safely. It also reinforces employees' psychological awareness of safety first. When determining the frequency of training in the organization, it is especially important to involve employees in decision-making and to ensure that management has carefully considered the Suggestions of employees.
